Carbon Reduction Policy Statement

Obam Domestic Lift Services Ltd (Obam)

Intention

Obam is committed to reducing our Carbon Impact and are currently working towards government targets set out in the Climate Change Act 2008. The management of our carbon emissions is a long-term commitment and supports our beliefs of making tomorrow a better place. This policy statement represents our environmental stance and the practices we apply when conducting our business.

Climate Change Act 2008

The Climate Change Act 2008 is a legally binding framework that aims to tackle the dangers of climate change. The provision with the Act states an 80% cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The two key aims of the Act 2008 are;

  • Improve carbon management, helping the transition towards a low-carbon economy in the UK;
  • Demonstrate UK leadership internationally, signalling we are committed to taking our share of responsibility for reducing global emissions in the context of developing negotiations. We have utilised these targets to generate our own key targets in carbon reduction.

Obam's Commitment

We are dedicated to reducing our carbon footprint and working towards the Climate Change Act 2008, with an overall aim of reducing the negative impact that our business activity has on the environment. Obam recognises that the energy, products and services it provides cause the emission of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere, which in turn contributes to climate change. As part of our overall sustainability goals, we are committed to continual improvement in the management and reduction of energy consumption and carbon emissions. In order to achieve that we will:

  • Manage energy consumption via a systematic, auditable environmental management system;
  • Ensure continual compliance with energy related legislation, and corporate commitments;
  • Implement a sustainable energy strategy to reach Carbon-Neutrality by 2050;
  • Ensure any new development contributes to the sustainable energy strategy;
  • Continually improve the energy efficiency of our existing estate;
  • Regularly monitor and review energy consumption against our reduction targets;
  • Ensure the availability of information and necessary resources are made available to achieve these goals, cost-effectively;
  • Manage our Scope 1 and 2 emissions and envisage to also incorporate our Scope 3 emissions from waste, water, transport, products and services;
  • Promote energy awareness among our staff;
  • Communicate progress to internal and external interested parties;
  • Assess the energy efficiency of significant energy using plant, equipment and processes during the design and procurement process, including new buildings and refurbishment;
  • Evaluation of alternative fuel cars to ascertain their potential benefit to the fleet;
  • Ensuring vehicles are properly maintained – poorly maintained vehicles have higher fuel consumption and toxic emission levels;
  • Identifying opportunities to reduce mileage by recording and analysing business travel, incorporating fuel efficient driving principles;
  • Encourage fuel efficient driving;
  • Promote safe, economic and environmentally friendly driver training;
  • Policies to manage the added risks, costs and environmental impacts of the ‘grey’ fleet;
  • Work in partnership with our clients and suppliers to assist them in achieving sustainable working environments and supporting their sustainability innovations where we can have an impact.

All Obam employees are expected to co-operate and assist in the implementation of this policy, whilst ensuring that their work, so far as reasonably practicable, is carried out without risk to themselves, others or the environment.
