Obam has been established since August 2000 when Chris Butroid, Steve Butroid, Pete Morley and Lee Ogden came together to form the company. With a wealth of experience in the adaptations industry before the year 2000 through engineering and technical know-how, they have taken the company from a desk in a spare bedroom to a multi-million pound business based just outside of Lincoln. After initially focussing on just stairlifts, recent years have seen the product range increase to include ramping solutions, hoists, through-floor lifts, steplifts and others.
Covering an area from South Yorkshire/East Riding of Yorkshire in the North to Northamptonshire in the South and from Derbyshire in the West to East Anglia in the East, Obam provides a full installation service over its product range with service and maintenance facilities on the stairlifts, TFLs and hoists. A family-run company with focus on high levels of customer service and support, we work on the philosophy to find the right solution for you as a customer at competitive and affordable prices. We offer a free, non-obligatory survey and everyone is more than welcome to visit our showroom in our premises in Sturton-by-Stow.
With the company since it started Chris has a commercial background and was previously a Purchasing Manager for two engineering companies. His role now includes overseeing all commercial and administrative functions for the company. Chris was a keen cricketer until he retired from playing in 2014 but this void in his sporting passion has now been filled with golf.
Steve is another founding member of Obam. After leaving school Steve studied electronics for 2 years. Then, after brief employment on the repairs bench in an electric motor manufacturers, Steve moved into the lift industry primarily installing goods and passenger lifts. After six enjoyable years doing this, a move to a more local company and into stairlifts came about. This is where Steve met two of the partners at Obam – Pete Morley and Lee Ogden. The other partner, Chris Butroid, Steve has known for a little longer as he’s his brother. A year before Obam was established, Steve had another spell working on lifts doing major repairs. As Obam has grown, Steve always stayed on the technical side of things working closely with the engineers making sure our end product is to the highest standard. What Steve doesn’t know about stairlifts isn’t worth knowing really!
One of the founding members of Obam, Lee has a long history in the adaptations industry, especially stairlifts. Working in roles such as storeman, engineer and senior engineer in his time prior to Obam, since setting up the company (along with Pete Morley and Steve Butroid) Lee has taken on the responsibility of Operations Director, with particularly emphasis on Health & Safety and also managing the workshop. Not bad for someone who left school at 16 wanting to be a plumber and also wanted to try his hand at being a chef – but didn’t want to join the armed forces for that!!
One of the founding members of Obam, Pete has over 25 years’ experience within the industry. Pete has specialised in vertical lifts for the majority of this time working for Brooks Stairlifts and Pollock Lifts before starting up Obam Stairlifts. Project management of vertical lifts, platform lifts and other building related projects is the main focus of Pete’s time along with hosting the product training sessions and seminars in our showroom and around the country. When not at work you can usually find him down at Rutland Water sailing his catamaran.
Andrea has been with the company almost as long as the company has been in existence. Managing the admin and all the company’s technical requirements (plus much more), Andrea is one of the main cogs that keeps Obam together. Prior to working at Obam, Andrea worked at Brooks Stairlifts from the age of 17 until being made redundant when they moved out of Lincoln, therefore Andrea has a wealth of experience in the stairlifts industry. Notoriously camera-shy (hence picture), Andrea is a very important member of the Obam team. Here’s to her being with Obam for another 14 years or more!
Emma has been with Obam for over 6 years and is our very own equivalent of Radio 2’s Lynn Bowles (in that you’ll hear her voice every day) as she is the person who you’ll probably be speaking to when you ring the office! Dealing with all job allocations, diary planning and customer service, Emma is yet another integral employee that keeps Obam running smoothly on a daily basis!
Ben joined Obam in 2014 and has over 3 years’ experience in the stairlift industry. He has brought a wide range of new ideas and knowledge of the sector to Obam and has contributed substantially with the expansion of the company’s product portfolio. Ben currently manages all projects and installations that are carried out by the company and is also involved with designing the computerised drawings for access ramps. Ben also assists with technical enquiries and will help out with everyday admin too. Ben is a keen musician and former band member. He can often be found playing many types of music genres on the electric guitar or keyboards.
